Sarah Rushton

I'm a multidisciplinary artist based in the Bay Area, working in drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media. My background in lighting design informs how I think about space, light, and emotional presence. I consider how a mark, a shadow, or a gesture can shift how we perceive what is there and what is gone.

My work often explores memory, grief, and psychological space, and how internal experiences can be traced through material and repetition. I use layered surfaces, subtle textures, and minimal forms to create pieces that feel both quiet and charged. Repetition, residue, and erasure are part of my process. They allow me to explore presence and disappearance, structure and softness, holding on and letting go.

Each piece is a kind of record: of time, of looking, of feeling, made visible through light, form, and surface.
